Board Member Focus - Paul Nash
Paul Nash is a partner in the San Francisco office of Allen Matkins. He is a leading commercial real estate attorney who assists clients with the purchase, sale, leasing, finance, and development of commercial real property throughout the United States. He also has specific expertise assisting clients with property and asset management matters.
In his role at Allen Matkins, Paul advises clients with projects in the office, industrial, retail, and multi-family sectors. “I enjoy helping our clients navigate complex transactions, while using a practical approach to get the deal done. I appreciate the collegiality and partnership I feel with my clients in helping them realize their objectives.”
What he finds most rewarding about his career is seeing a client’s vision for their project come to fruition. “It is very satisfying to be engaged with our clients in their development and repositioning strategies” he stated, “especially when seeing how underperforming projects can be turned around and become very valuable assets for our clients and their partners.”
Paul was invited to join the Board in 2024 after many years of significant engagement in the Chapter. He was member of the 3rd Young Professionals Group (YPG) cohort and following his involvement he became a member of the YPG Alumni Committee. He has also served on the Programs Committee, Government Affairs Committee, and the Downtown Revitalization Task Force.
Mr. Nash expressed his appreciation for NAIOP and the many relationships he has developed throughout the years. “It is especially enjoyable to work on transactions with friends I’ve made through NAIOP,” he commented.
Paul advises young professionals to try to learn as much as they can and start building relationships early in their careers, which will ultimately lead to opportunities presenting themselves in the future. “Ask lots of questions and try new things,” he said. “The more open you are to trying new things early on, the better positioned you will be when opportunities arise.”
Born and raised in San Jose, Mr. Nash spent ten years in Utah for school. He attended Brigham Young University, earning an undergraduate degree in corporate finance, and attended the University of Utah for law school. After meeting his wife Amy during their freshman year at BYU, they knew they wanted to move back to California after finishing law school together. “We always planned to return to the Bay Area,” he commented. “You can’t beat the weather, beauty and diversity of this area.”
These days Paul and his family live in San Ramon. He and Amy just celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary, and they have two daughters, Clara (13) and Rose (10), and a Bernese Mountain Dog named Lolo. Amy practiced as a lawyer for several years before changing careers and starting a food blog (houseofnasheats.com).
In his spare time, Paul enjoys flyfishing, tennis, woodworking, outdoor photography, international travel, and taking Lolo on adventures. “I love backpacking, camping and fly-fishing with my family” he expressed. Paul also spends a significant amount of time volunteering with his church as an advisor and instructor to 11- to 13-year-old boys.
