FLEX ALERT ANNOUNCED – CONSERVE ENERGY
A Statewide Flex Alert has been put into effect by the State of California. A Flex Alert is a call for consumers to voluntarily conserve electricity when there is an anticipated shortage of energy and is a strategy to avert rolling blackouts and other emergency measures.

BUSINESS CALLS ON GOVERNOR TO CLARIFY ECONOMIC REOPENING
The unified state and regional business community today issued the following statement in response to new workplace regulations passed by the Cal/OSHA Standards Board and expedited by a subsequent Executive Order issued by Governor Gavin Newsom:
“Today’s actions are a step in the right direction, and we sincerely thank the governor for issuing an Executive Order to help expedite clarity for employers and employees. However, there is still more work to be done and these new Cal/OSHA regulations do not ensure that the economy can ‘roar’ back. Instead, they continue to not align with the CDC and are inconsistent with other large states like New York, which have fully opened without similar confusion and frustration. The California standard continues to raise questions related to privacy, liability and duration of the standards. These must be addressed to ensure businesses can bring their employees back and fully reopen the economy.
“We will continue our work with the governor on these outstanding issues to clean up the confusion and provide clear answers for all businesses. We also continue to encourage all Californians to get vaccinated so California can see a full economic recovery and not have to backtrack on the progress we have made.”

GOVERNOR AND CAL/OSHA RESPOND – GOOD NEWS!
Shortly after the above statement went out, the following from Governor Newsom’s Office was released announcing that Cal/OSHA had voted to re-align its standards on face coverings and social distancing and other items, to bring consistency to workplaces and the more general statewide re-opening. We thank everyone that helped us weigh in on this topic over the past two weeks:
SACRAMENTO – Following the vote by the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board to adopt revised COVID-19 Prevention Emergency Temporary Standards that reflect the state’s latest COVID-19 public health order, Governor Gavin Newsom today signed an executive order enabling the revisions to take effect without the normal 10-day review period by the Office of Administrative Law – providing clarity and consistency for employers and employees as California fully reopens its economy.
Among other updates, Cal/OSHA’s revisions align with the latest guidance from the California Department of Public Health – based on guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – on face coverings and eliminate physical distancing requirements, except for certain employees during outbreaks. Unless they show symptoms, fully vaccinated employees do not need to be offered testing or be excluded from work after close contact with a COVID-19-positive person.
