NAIOP San Francisco Bay Area helps defeat SB 939

NAIOP San Francisco Bay Area Chapter, working in conjunction with CBPA (California Business Properties Association), NAIOP's California state level lobbyist, and other NAIOP chapters throughout the state, has successfully defeated SB 939!

We are pleased to report that SB 939 (Senator Wiener) did NOT pass the Senate Appropriations Committee today, which means the bill will no longer move forward. NAIOP took a strong and active position in opposition to this bill, which would have been highly detrimental to commercial landlords and set a dangerous precedent for the status of existing lease agreements in the state.

Your NAIOP SFBA Chapter sent letters of opposition to the senators involved with the legislation, the Appropriations Committee members as well as the Judiciary Committee members.  We led letter-writing drives with all Chapter members, executed a fundraising campaign for targeted public relations in Sacramento, and ran a local opposition campaign through major publications.

The collective voice of our chapter, our members and sponsors was heard loud and clear.  We would like to thank our members who participated in our outreach campaign and donated funds, our NAIOP SFBA Government Affairs Committee, Marketing & Communications Committee, as well as CBPA, who represented our interests on the front lines in Sacramento.

This was a great example of NAIOP successfully advocating on behalf of our members and sponsors and we look forward to continuing to represent and strengthen the collective interests of the commercial real estate industry in the days ahead.
