Winners of the 7th Annual Best of the Bay Commercial Real Estate Awards

NAIOP San Francisco Bay Area Chapter hosted its 7th annual Best of the Bay Awards on Wednesday, February 13, 2019.  Over 300 members and guests gathered at Four Season Hotel in San Francisco for the lively gala event.  Back for another command performance as master of ceremonies with his infamous NAIOP gong was Bay Area real estate luminary, Luis BelmonteUnique among real estate awards competitions, Best of the Bay features live “pitches” by nominees and interactive voting with attendees using wireless keypads to select winners in real time.  Like the 1970’s TV Gong Show, Belmonte gongs those whose pitches fail to entertain.

New on the slate of award categories (and decided in advance by jury) was the chapter’s first annual Diversity Champion’s Award which honors the Bay Area company whose diversity and inclusion practices best exemplify leadership in the industry.  Prologis won for its innovative Community Workforce Initiative.  Gayle Starr, Managing Director, accepted the award and provided a brief overview of the program which connects Prologis with local workforce programs to provide mentorship, skills training, internships and job placement for people interested in pursuing careers in logistics, distribution and transportation.  She also shared remarks about the firm’s annual Inclusion in CRE Scholarship which, in association with NAIOP is awarded to up to 10 women and underrepresented professionals who demonstrate leadership and responsibility in the Commercial Real Estate Profession.

This year’s Developing Leaders category was also voted on by a jury in order to bring a more methodical approach to the process of the coveted award.  Stew Cedarleaf, Senior Investment Manager at Five Points Communities received the honor.
