California is the #4 state in the U.S. for overall contributions to state GDP created by CRE development, creating and supporting 162,515 related jobs and contributing $26.03 billion to the state’s economy in 2020 (the most recent data available).

Life sciences real estate was performing well before the COVID-19 pandemic struck earlier this year. For example, CBRE’s “U.S. Real Estate Market Outlook 2020” notes that the sector (including medical office) accounted for an annual average investment of $18.7 billion from 2014 to 2019.

However, the challenges and opportunities presented by the public health crisis have boosted interest and investment in the sector at a time when other areas of commercial real estate such as retail and office have struggled.

This Thursday would have been our big CREATE Gala, but our large gathering is not possible during current Shelter-In-Place restrictions.  However, the show must go on and our work purposefully continues, despite COVID. And COVID-19 is not all that we are tending to.  We have not paused on other critical work, and we will not rest. CREATE continues to make good progress tackling our talent drought! For six years, we've relied on the Gala to highlight the achievements of our workforce development initiative, showcase our student graduates, honor an Industry Partner for their support (this year, Tishman-Speyer), and importantly, to raise funds for the Commercial Real Estate Alliance for Tomorrow's Employees (CREATE).
